Am I Showing too Much Ass?

Okay, take a look at my cover for Sleepless...

Smashwords rejected it from the Premium Catalog for too much nudity. When I look at this, I see the top of a male ass. Far less ass than what I see shown with women wearing thongs or in a swim suit. I need to censor it or replace it for better distribution. What if this book were about plumbing? That butt would be integral to the story!

That's two book controversies in one week! (The other was for Erotic Adventures in Babysitting: Milk and Cum, where I placed a white splat on the cover (assumption, they're not clear either)... blocked on Amazon...)

(For the record, I'm assuming it's his posterior, my x-ray vision isn't good enough to see anything else).

I just checked the status of Erotic Adventures in Babysitting: Milk and Cum and apparently something didn't sit well with Amazon. It's listed as Blocked. I'm not too concerned, though Amazon is the lion's share of my livelihood. I don't know whether it's because of the title or the white splash I put on the cover, but the subject matter isn't any crazier or taboo than much of the other stuff I've previously published. Hopefully they'll send me a letter explaining why.

The characters are all over the age of 18, I've written about babysitters with Jessica L. before, and there are other books on Amazon with Cum in the title. There is also no nudity on the cover. The white splash is the same graphic as the blue splash that I used on the cover of Dripping Wet. I wouldn't mind knowing so that I can avoid what I did in the future. And I'd love to be able to make changes to the cover if that's the problem, not have the book completely blocked as it currently is.

Did I make enough to be a full-time writer in June? No. So that's two months down. July is looking promising, with the popularity of my erotica increasing in leaps and bounds. Still, it might be August before I leave my day job.

May - In Retrospect as an Erotica Author

May was my first Month as a writer of Erotica and I managed to release three short stories during that time. This is a look back at the experience.

First of all, my goal is to provide myself with a livable income from writing Erotica. Am I there yet? No, but I have faith. I've set my first milestone to reach at $2000 a month before I can say that I write for a living, and I have a long way to go. I realize that this isn't a lot, especially to live on, but again, it's only the first hurdle. It does look like June will be a very good month though, as sales are continuing to grow.

My best-selling book of May was Dirty Secrets with the majority of sales coming from Smashwords (Amazon sales are closing in, but haven't past it yet). Going into June, the majority of sales already belong to Amazon, but I'm getting ahead of myself.

I have not looked into other distributors yet, beyond Amazon and Smashwords, and I am very interested in finding new places to promote my writing beyond Google+, Twitter, Facebook, and this Blog. At this point, I can't really say if any of those four have helped with sales, but I've found it easier to follow other erotica writers that have caught my attention.

Any thoughts or feedback? I'd love to hear from you other erotica writers sharing your experiences.

June Plans

May has come and gone, and June stretches its 30 glorious days before me. It's the start of summer, and June's going to be "hot"! Without further ado, here is what I, Jodi Sylph, have planned for you...

Father's Day Theme
Father's Day is June 18th, and this erotica author is bringing you the taboo. In just a few days, my first release of the month will be a short story about a step-father and his daughter. This will be just the first taboo for the month... I've got a theme and I plan to use it.

Kira Luste Adventure
It's been a month since the first short of Kira was released, The Mercenary's Wench. This will be an ongoing series, with Kira returning monthly, because I really like my "fantasies". Here's a tease as to what you can expect: nymphs and satyrs!!!!

Getting Longer?!?
I am also hard at work writing a full length novel. Will this see release in June? Maybe, maybe not. It all depends on how side-tracked I remain with my short stories. What I can tell you so far is that it is filled with a generous amount of steaminess of just about everything you would ever want to happily imagine! As I feel like I'm getting closer to it's climax, I'll share more details...

On a final note, I'll be sharing some details of my first month writing erotica that will probably be more of interest to other erotica authors, probably in a day or two. It's an interesting craft, and I enjoy sharing all of it with my visitors.
